Devon Kennedy began her career in nonprofits in 2008 after graduating from the University of Ottawa with a degree in journalism. She used her communications skills to support several nonprofit organizations in Toronto before travelling to New Zealand, where she met her future husband, Robert, from a place she had never heard of—Roberts Creek. Devon then moved to Western Canada and ended up in nonprofit management in Vancouver, supporting both international and local projects.
Devon spent many hours travelling across the Pacific Northwest and Western Canada, working with school districts, government, and corporate donors. She managed a team responsible for fundraising millions of dollars for youth around the world. After moving to the Sunshine Coast in 2015 with Robert and their first child, Devon wanted to bring her nonprofit experience to her local community and joined the team at Sunshine Coast Community Services as their Community Partnerships Manager.
There, Devon learned about the unique needs of the people on the Sunshine Coast, especially the needs of women and children. After the birth of her third child, Devon joined Robert in building their business—Carson Refrigeration. Together, they have helped hundreds of homes on the Coast shift to using clean energy to heat and cool their homes. Community is at the heart of Carson Refrigeration, and they aim to positively contribute to where Robert grew up and where they are raising their three children.
When not working on the business, you can find Devon volunteering at her kids’ school, beginning and quickly abandoning any new hobby, and planning trips to visit her family in Ontario and New Zealand.
