Char Schafer

Program Lead, Community Based Victim Services & Women’s Outreach, SCCSS

Char has been a dedicated employee of Sunshine Coast Community Services for 30 years. She is currently the lead for the Community-Based Victim Services Program, supporting survivors of relationship and sexualized violence, and the Women’s Outreach Program, assisting women experiencing abuse in their relationships. Char also has frontline experience at Thyme Second Stage and Yew Transition Houses.

Her extensive experience has given her firsthand knowledge of the vital need for secure, affordable housing for women and children impacted by family violence. Char believes that providing this essential support is crucial for breaking the cycle of abuse and helping these families move forward in their lives.

Char is excited about the opportunities the new building will bring, not only as a hub of services but also through its community kitchen, which will foster collaboration and delicious food sharing—a true community-building effort. In her free time, Char enjoys gardening and being in nature, appreciating the beauty of the Sunshine Coast.

Please join Char in supporting this transformative project and help make a difference in the lives of women and children in our community.

“I recognize the need for secure, affordable housing for women leaving violence. The new building will provide a hub of services, offering convenient access for the families residing there as well as the rest of the community.”
