Fifty Women for SCCSS - An initiative of: Sunshine Coast Community Services Society

Catherine Leach

Executive Director, Sunshine Coast Community Services Society

Catherine is the proud mother of two amazing children and the grandmother of the magnificent Poppy. She has volunteered and worked in the nonprofit sector for over 45 years. This lifelong commitment to working with people began at the age of 13 when Catherine began volunteering at the University of Toronto’s Coop Daycare Centre. Catherine always knew she wanted to work with people and after completing her BSc in Psychology from the University of Toronto in 1988 she began her life long non-profit professional career as a crisis counsellor in a Transition House for women and children escaping violence. Catherine led the successful development of 2 community spaces in Vancouver that brought together social programs, community spaces and affordable housing. Catherine cares deeply about social justice issues and has a passion for community development. She is a creative and innovative individual who loves bringing people together to learn and take action. Catherine is grateful that she has been able to spend her life in service to others and that she had the opportunity to play a role in developing spaces, programs and leading initiatives that have contributed to the health and wellness of communities in Ontario and British Columbia.

“This project is a comprehensive, well thought out and community driven response to a critical need in this community for affordable housing and barrier free community programs that respond to those in crisis, build a sense of connection and belonging and provide opportunities for community members to access the resources they need to live healthy and full lives.”
