Bonnie Sherr Klein

Disability advocate and educator; former feminist documentary filmmaker

Bonnie was one of the pioneer women filmmakers at the National Film Board of Canada’s feminist Studio D. She is best-known for the infamous Not a Love Story, the first look at pornography from a woman’s point of view. Her own favourite film is Shameless: The ART of Disability, a pyjama party with 5 disability arts activists, including herself, filmed in Roberts Creek. Coasters have probably seen her enjoying a ride in her tricycle, often with her more recently-disabled husband Michael, and their geriatric doodle Luna.

“I am so excited to join with others to create the much-needed hub and affordable housing for women and children in our community. I hope to contribute a disability lens so that our new building is not only affordable but also accessible for our disabled population, who have few places to live.”
