We are deeply saddened to share that Sue Jackel, our beloved honorary co-chair, passed away on October 13, 2024. In honor of Sue’s remarkable legacy, her family has generously chosen the 50 Women for SCCSS campaign as one of the charities for donations in her memory. Sue will be greatly missed, but her legacy lives on in the people and organizations she helped shape.

As a seniors advocate, Sue ensures that the voices and concerns of seniors are heard in local governance. She has organized non-partisan forums during municipal elections to address their needs effectively.
Sue’s involvement extends to community organizations such as the Coast Car Co-op, where she supported efforts to expand transportation services in Sechelt. Additionally, her role as a committee member for the Sunshine Coast Foundation and Chairperson of the Sunshine Coast ElderCollege reflects her commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for seniors and others in our community.
Her contributions have been recognized with awards including the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.
Currently, Sue focuses on fostering collaboration and positive change closer to home, such as supporting the new SCCSS community services hub and affordable housing for women, reflecting her dedication to making a difference in her neighbourhood.
